Many flats and homes without gas rely on electric heating: storage heaters charged on off-peak tariffs, panel or convector heaters, and immersion heaters for hot water. Older units are often inefficient, hard to control and expensive to run.
We replace old storage heaters with modern, controllable models, install panel heaters and controls, and repair or replace immersion heaters, timers and thermostats, with the circuits and protection each one needs.
When to call us
- Old storage heaters that are hard to control or run out of heat
- Immersion heater not heating, or tripping the RCD
- Rooms with no heating or inadequate heating
- Landlords needing to meet heating standards in rented homes
- Off-peak (Economy 7) circuits not switching correctly
What's involved
- 1Assessment of existing heaters, circuits and tariff wiring
- 2Supply and installation of storage, panel or convector heaters
- 3Immersion heater element, thermostat and timer replacement
- 4Dedicated heater circuits where required
- 5Programmers, thermostats and smart controls
- 6Testing and certification
Good to know
Modern storage heaters
Electric heaters sold today must meet ecodesign requirements for controls, such as electronic thermostats and timers. That makes modern units far more controllable than older models.
Off-peak circuits
Storage heaters and some immersion heaters run on separate off-peak supplies. If heaters aren't charging, the problem may be the off-peak circuit or meter switching rather than the heater itself.
How much does electric heating installation cost?
Every job is different, so we price it once we understand what's needed. The main factors are:
- Number and type of heaters
- Whether off-peak circuits are already in place
- Controls required
- Removal of old units
- Access and making good
We explain charges before we attend and agree the price of any work with you before it starts. Sending photos in advance helps us quote more accurately.
Electric Heating & Storage Heaters: FAQs
Why is my immersion heater tripping the electrics?
A failed element often causes earth leakage that trips the RCD. Replacing the element usually fixes it; we'll test to confirm.
Are new storage heaters cheaper to run?
Modern units with better insulation and controls can make better use of off-peak energy and reduce waste, but running costs depend on your tariff, home and usage.
